The subject was arrested and provided immediate medical attention on scene. K9 Kai pursued the subject over a fence and quickly apprehended the subject by the right upper hamstring/buttocks area. Based on the danger to the community, the victim of the crime, officers in the area, and the desperation the subject presented to avoid arrest, Officer Ferguson released K9 Kai. The subject refused and changed directions, jumping a fence into a residential area. The subject ran towards Kai and Officer Ferguson gave warnings for the subject to stop. CSPD K9 Officer Ferguson and his police canine Kai were in the area to assist detectives. The male ignored commands from detectives and ran.

The male was walking alone in the area and was approached by detectives who attempted to surround him with vehicles. The subject had a history of illegally carrying firearms and resisting arrest. On 07-12-2023, at approximately 2:00pm, detectives with the CSPD/EPSO Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force located an adult male with an active arrest warrant for 1st Degree Attempted Murder which involved a firearm. The suspect was charged with: Assault 2nd Degree MVT Felony Eluding Criminal Mischief Obstruction DUI Reckless Driving Possession of Drug Paraphernalia Open Container Driving under Restraint Traffic Control Signal Accident Involving Damage Duty to Report Duty to give Notice Accident. It was later learned that the vehicle was stolen. There was minor damage to a patrol vehicle, but it remained in service. The suspect was apprehended and taken into custody.

The driver fled on foot and officers chased the suspect for a short distance.

The suspect vehicle veered across the lanes and stopped prior to the intersection of Venetucci Blvd and Cheyenne Meadows Road facing eastbound on the westbound lanes. The suspect vehicle was damaged, and the driver could not control it. The suspect vehicle struck a Box Truck, spun around, and continued driving eastbound on Venetucci Blvd. Cheyenne Mountain Blvd and Venetucci Blvd. The suspect vehicle drove off and ran a red light at the intersection of E. An officer reached into the suspect driver’s vehicle and attempted to take the keys out of the vehicle, but it had a punched steering column. CSFD advised the driver was attempting to drive off. CSFD was parked in front of the suspect vehicle and when officers arrived on scene, one cruiser parked in front of the suspect vehicle and the other cruiser parked parallel to the suspect vehicle. The vehicle engine was running, the door was cracked, and there were possible drugs involved. A male was parked in the plot and was passed out in the driver’s seat. At approximately 3:48 PM, Gold Hill officers were sent to assist CSFD at the 1600 block of East Cheyenne Mountain Blvd.
